The first stage of auditions of the 19th Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition in Nowy Sącz began on Sunday, 29 August, with a performance by Jakub Foltak, countertenor and graduate of the Academy of Music in Katowice. "It is not bad at all to start the Competition. I am glad that it happened. I sang up, went on stage and didn't have time to get nervous". - said Jakub Foltak, after his performance.
A month ago, the letter "F" was officially drawn, which determines the order of the contestants' performances in the Competition. "I have been preparing for this Competition for almost two years. I really wanted to take part in it, because I think that participation in it will allow me to show myself, it will become a ticket to the artistic world," emphasized Jakub Foltak, who is a member of the "Opera Academy" at the Grand Theatre - National Opera.
In the first stage, young singers performed two pieces, one mainly by Mozart and one chosen from a list. The performance program could not exceed ten minutes. "I really dreamed of coming to Nowy Sącz because it is a very prestigious Competition and the jury is quite demanding. I chose a varied repertoire to show myself from many sides," Justyna Gęsicka, a mezzo-soprano from Bydgoszcz, said after leaving the stage. "After the break caused by the pandemic, coming out on stage feels a certain thrill, but that's okay, because we missed it a lot" - she emphasized.
The young artists were judged by an international jury working under the direction of Małgorzata Walewska. "We have auditioned only half of the participants, but I am already happy, because it is clear that among the performers there are outstanding interpreters. And this bodes well," Małgorzata Walewska summed up the first day of the auditions.
Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition takes place in three stages, and the winners will be announced on 4 September during the Concert of Laureates.
Tomorrow, Monday, is the second day of auditions for the first stage and in the evening the first jury verdict will show who will sing in the second stage of the Competition.
Let us recall that all auditions are held with the participation of the audience in the SOKÓŁ Małopolska Cultural Centre in Nowy Sącz and are also streamed online on the Competition's website.
