Dariusz Stachura

Poland
Graduated at the Academy of Music in Lodz, Dariusz Stachura had his debut on the stage of the Lodz Grand Theatre in Tchaikovsky’s opera “Evgeniy Onegin”, where he interpreted Lensky, one of the lead characters. The following year, he was awarded with the prize in the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Festival and Competition (Lodz). In 1992 he was honoured with the Lodz Critics’ Special Prize for outstanding vocal achievements on the stage of the Lodz Grand Theatre, for tenor roles in Verdi’s “Nabucco” and “Traviata”, Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier”, Mozart’s “Cosí fan tutte” and Don Giovanni and Rossini’s  “The Barber of Seville”, amongst others.

His career has gained momentum since then, triggering numerous international tournées, both with the Lodz Grand Theatre and other opera houses. He has toured all over Europe: Austria, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Switzerland; and outside of Europe, including China, South Africa and USA. The crucial part of his artistic path was performing oratorio music. Supported by the Warsaw Philharmonic, Stachura created tenor roles in works such as: Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solennelle” and “Stabat Mater”, Verdi’s “Requiem”, Mozart’s “Kronungsmesse” and “Requiem”, Dvořák's “Stabat Mater”, Wilkomirski’s “Solemn Mass” or Mendelssohn’s “II Symphony”, on the main concert stages of Poland and Europe. He collaborated closely with the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, where he created the leading roles in the most prominent performances ever staged. He also featured tenor parts in operas such as: Moniuszko’s “The Haunted Manor”, Gounod’s “Faust”, Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and “L’elisir d’amore”, Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” and Verdi’s “Rigoletto”.

Being the only foreigner and first cover of Luciano Pavarotti in Puccini’s La Boheme during the 100th anniversary celebration in Turin (1996), he made a name for himself. He has performed at numerous opera festivals in Poland, such as: Viva Il Canto (Cieszyn), Wratislavia Cantans (Wroclaw), The Jan Kiepura Festival (Krynica), International Moniuszko Festival (Kudowa-Zdroj), and abroad: Festivals in Xanten and Ludwigsburg (Germany) and Wexford Festival Opera (Ireland). Dariusz Stachura is a laureate of VII The Great Tenors’ Tournament in Szczecin. In 1999 he launched the project The Three Polish Tenors, which he has since travelled with to various Polish and foreign venues (Canada, USA, Germany).

He was appointed Artistic Director of The Festival of Italian Opera Music “Belcanto per Sempre” in Wloclawek and of The Great Tenors’ Tournament, offices that he has been holding until this day. Since 2016 he also holds the position of President of the Foundation Canto Pro Classica, which promotes young Polish artists and Polish culture in general, and manages the Artistic Agency Accordo. Moreover, he is the founder and the General Manager of  the National Vocal Contest in Ciechocinek – Polish Music Academies Tournament.

His voice was recorded on multiple opera albums including: “The Three Polish Tenors”, “Ave Maria”, “Walewska&Stachura”, “The Haunted Manor” (with the Grand Theatre in Warsaw), Opera Italiana (under the baton of G. Schulz, Germany) and Dariusz Stachura – “Belcanto per sempre”. He is an honorary citizen of Lodz and Brzeziny. In September 2019 he has been appointed General Manager of the Lodz Grand Theatre.
