"I'm glad I opened the Competition. Though the emotions were overwhelming – I'm still trembling," said Gabriela Celińska after leaving the stage. Her performance marked the start of the first round of the 21ˢᵗ Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition in Nowy Sącz today. The young mezzo-soprano, still a student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, presented the aria of Idamante (Ah! Qual gelido orror / Il padre adorato) from Act II of Mozart’s Idomeneo and the recitative and aria of Stephano (Depuis hier, je cherche / Que fais-tu, blanche tourterelle) from Act III of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. The artist was accompanied by pianist Manfred Schiebel.

"I wish the contestants success in presenting the best version of themselves," said Małgorzata Walewska, President of the Jury, who has served as Artistic Director of the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition since 2014. "But I would also like to encourage them not to treat the Competition as a race, but rather as an experience. It’s worth listening to the jurors’ advice to draw conclusions, and it’s worth forming friendships that will last for years," emphasised the President of the Jury.
