A jury of 26 singers from 8 countries, headed by Małgorzata Walewska, qualified for the second stage of the 119th Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition in Nowy Sącz.
Among them were 17 Poles and two persons from Ukraine and Israel, as well as one person from Romania, Russia, China, Slovakia and Georgia. A total of 46 singers from 11 countries entered the Competition, including 31 people from Poland, three from Ukraine, two each from Israel, the Czech Republic and Russia, and one each from China, Georgia, South Korea, Latvia, Romania and Slovakia.

"This is a difficult moment. Many talented singers did not qualify for the second stage. Those who dropped out are invited to us - the jurors - for consultations, you will be able to find out what comments we have for them. We are now at your disposal". - said Małgorzata Walewska, during the announcement of the first jury verdict. "And for those who will be old enough, we invite you in two years' time," she added. - she emphasised. And indeed, there were long queues of young artists who wanted to find out what they still had to work on.

In the first stage, which lasted two days, young singers performed two songs out of three proposed: one chosen by themselves, and the other by the jury. The programme of the participants in the first stage did not exceed 10 minutes. "The level of the Competition is very high. We had a lot to choose from. Especially that quite a few personalities entered the Competition. This bodes well". - Małgorzata Walewska summed up the first stage.

Interestingly, this year there were many more low voices in the Competition than usual, both female and male, although sopranos are still the most numerous group - 17. In other voices, the proportions were as follows: mezzo-soprano -15, baritone - 5, tenor - 4, bass - 4, countertenor - 1.

Tomorrow the second stage of the Competition begins. The participants will perform 3 or 4 pieces selected by the jury from a programme given by the participant. A song competition will also take place in Stage II. On Wednesday evening the finalists of this year's Competition will be announced.

The contest organized by the SOKÓŁ Małopolska Cultural Centre in Nowy Sącz is very popular among the audience, also in the Internet. So far the first two days of auditions have been watched by 4500 people online.
