Keith Bernard Stonum

Artistic Director of the Jungen Oper im Nord (Staatsoper Stuttgart, Germany), singer
Tenor and Arts Mediator (born 1986) studied singing at the Shepherd School of Music in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He completed his master's degree with Hedwig Fassbender at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and was then a member of the International Opera Studio of the Cologne Opera. There he gained further stage experience in productions such as The Rape of Lucretia and My Fair Lady. He then made guest appearances as a tenor soloist in theaters such as Theater Aachen, Oper Frankfurt, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Opéra de Toulon and the Prinzregententheater in Munich, where he specialized in interdisciplinary works and collaborations with contemporary composers. These works include the world premieres of Prinzessin im Eis (Anno Schreier), Frankfurter Rendezvous (Schorsch Kamerun) and Schönerland (Søren Nils Eichberg). He sang Hans Zender's Winterreise under Teodor Currentzis at the Athens Festival. Since 2021 he has been working in the Xchange department (opera, dance and music mediation) at the Hanover State Opera, where he i.a. designs and directs several music theater clubs, offers participatory formats on the subject of voice, is project manager for the inclusive sound construction site sound:waves and the German-Turkish Culture Days 2022, and gains initial experience as a dramaturge (Lucia Ronchetti, Pinocchio's Adventures). In autumn 2023 he will take up the position of artistic director of the Junge Oper Stuttgart (JOiN) together with dramaturg and stage director Martin Mutschler.
