Dear Participants and Supporters of the Competition, before you is a short but important letter from Małgorzata Walewska herself – full of valuable tips and personal reflections on the art of singing.
Carpe diem! Seize the day, because no one will know what future the Gods have in store for us.
Horace, “Odes”
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I welcome everyone with this epicurean quote hoping that the passion of singing will allow you to break away from the problems of today’s increasingly crazy world and focus on the beauty of music. As we are entering the 21st edition of the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition I would like to share with you my thoughts about the importance of vocal competitions. After the pandemic, the opera industry, along with global economy, has been going through major changes. The job markets have become tougher and fiercer. And because of that I would like to underline how important vocal competitions are. This is the best opportunity to present yourself to a professional group of specialists sitting on the committees and a chance to test your skills and mental strength. Competitions also give you a great chance to practice before you enter future auditions and we all know how important auditions are for every opera singer.
I would also like to point out how crucial the selection of repertoire is for the competition and how important it is to present, on stage, those songs which you know well and which do not pose any major difficulties for you. Not every young soprano has to be Tosca, and not every bass-baritone starting his career has to be Boris Godunov. There will be time for these roles. A well-chosen programme is the best recipe for success!
I cordially invite you to Nowy Sącz for this , already 21st edition of the Competition. This event is famous for its wonderful atmosphere, thanks to the staff and volunteers of SOKÓŁ Małopolska Culture Centre – always smiling and always incredibly helpful.
…and in some free moments from the Competition please enjoy beautiful views, fragrant flowers – and delicious ice cream.
